Hand carved from rare Orca Marble, found near Skull Lake on Vancouver Island, the sculpture appears to defy gravity as the fish rotates freely in a full 360 degrees while delicately balanced on a substantial natural stone base. What makes this work truly extraordinary is the marble itself. Over countless centuries, the stone rested beneath the forests of Vancouver Island, where tannins from decaying wood gradually became part of its geological story. The delicate pale orange and charcoal markings woven throughout the marble are not surface treatments but natural signatures of time. In Rock Fish, these intricate patterns become the fish's living skin—a breathtaking geological painting created entirely by nature and revealed through the artist's vision.
