Not Long
Watercolour
by Alex Fong
Not Long captures a lively gathering of birds among tall reeds and cattails touched by the changing season. A striking black bird surveys the landscape from above while smaller companions move through the colourful vegetation below, creating a scene filled with character, curiosity, and quiet conversation.
Alex Fong transforms the marshland through expressive washes, bold shapes, and an unexpected palette of gold, crimson, turquoise, violet, and green. His signature “confetti” accents drift throughout the composition, adding energy and a playful sense of movement against the soft, atmospheric sky.
The title suggests a fleeting moment before the landscape changes—before the birds depart, the weather turns, or winter settles more deeply over the marsh. Whimsical yet contemplative, Not Long celebrates the brief encounters and subtle transitions that make the natural world so captivating.
