Mountains Within Mountains
Original Monumental Marble Sculpture
by Kent Laforme
Powerful in its simplicity and timeless in its symbolism, Mountains Within Mountains is a monumental sculpture that speaks to the enduring relationship between nature, place, and perspective. Carved from solid marble by acclaimed Canadian sculptor Kent Laforme, the work transforms the iconic silhouette of mountain peaks into a bold, contemporary form that is both architectural and organic.
The interlocking triangular forms invite viewers to look beyond the obvious. Each mountain frames another, suggesting that every summit reveals a new horizon and every achievement opens the way to the next challenge. It is a meditation on perseverance, growth, and the layered beauty of the natural world. The negative spaces are as important as the stone itself, allowing light, landscape, and changing seasons to become active participants in the sculpture.
Laforme's masterful understanding of marble is evident throughout. The clean geometric lines contrast with the subtle natural character of the stone, creating a dialogue between precision and geology. Although monumental in scale, the sculpture possesses a remarkable sense of balance and serenity, appearing both grounded and effortlessly light within its surroundings.
Designed for permanent outdoor installation, Mountains Within Mountains responds beautifully to natural light. Throughout the day, shifting shadows redefine its form, while its elegant simplicity allows it to complement both contemporary architecture and natural landscapes. It is a work that rewards repeated viewing, revealing new relationships between form, space, and environment from every angle.
Now residing in a private collection, Mountains Within Mountains stands as a striking example of Kent Laforme's ability to distill the grandeur of the Canadian landscape into a refined and enduring sculptural statement. It is a celebration of resilience, discovery, and the quiet strength found within nature—and within ourselves.
