Going Strong
Alex Fong
Original Watercolor on Paper
In Going Strong, internationally acclaimed watercolor artist Alex Fong captures one of nature’s most enduring stories—the strength of family, resilience, and the unwavering instinct to nurture the next generation.
At the heart of the composition, a pair of ospreys stand watch over their nest, surrounded by a vibrant tangle of branches, grasses, and brilliantly colored ribbons woven into their home. The nest itself becomes a symbol of perseverance and adaptation, reflecting the remarkable ability of these magnificent birds to thrive amidst both natural and human-made environments.
Fong’s mastery of watercolor is on full display. Explosive washes of rich blues, fiery oranges, soft violets, and luminous earth tones create an atmosphere that feels both dramatic and uplifting. His signature approach combines remarkable technical precision with expressive freedom, allowing the painting to pulse with energy while maintaining extraordinary detail and realism. The interplay between the powerful sky and the intricate nest creates a compelling visual tension that immediately draws the viewer into the scene.
More than a wildlife portrait, Going Strong is a tribute to endurance and hope. The vigilant posture of the parent birds, the presence of the young within the nest, and the dynamic movement throughout the composition speak to themes of protection, growth, and renewal. It is a reminder that strength is often found not in dominance, but in commitment, care, and the determination to carry on despite challenges.
Known internationally for his ability to transform ordinary moments into extraordinary works of art, Alex Fong brings both emotional depth and technical brilliance to this remarkable watercolor. His sophisticated use of color, light, and composition elevates the scene beyond observation, creating a powerful narrative that resonates with collectors and nature lovers alike.
Going Strong is a celebration of life’s enduring cycles and the bonds that sustain them. Rich in symbolism, vibrant in execution, and unforgettable in its presence, this exceptional watercolor stands as a testament to Fong’s artistic vision and his ability to reveal beauty, strength, and optimism within the natural world.
